About World Anemia Awareness Day
World Anemia Awareness Day was created in 2022 by Human Touch Media Foundation and the Society for the Advancement of Patient Blood Management (SABM) in response to the global issues of anemia and iron deficiency mainly affecting women and children. It is marked on 13 February as 13 represents the ideal hemoglobin number for optimal blood health.
The 2023 global campaign has now reached an audience of over 12 million. The campaign focus is to keep the problem of anemia and iron deficiency in the spotlight. It is especially for the general public as it is a problem often overlooked by medical professionals.
World Anemia Awareness Day aims to be:
- a platform for raising awareness or anemia and iron deficiency
- a global driver to promote the importance of preventative action in order to support blood health.
Every year, the World Anemia Awareness Day campaign focuses on a dedicated theme that will run for one or more years. The theme for World Anemia Awareness Day in 2024 is “The Best Blood is Your Blood”.
